Tracee Hamilton: It's one of the quietest days on the sports calendar, so let's talk about the 2010 All-Star Game -- assuming any among us managed to stay awake to the end.nhl jerseys for cheap It's going to be touch and go at my house. _______________________ Why?: I watched the 8th and 9th innnings last night...nothing else on...and once the game was over, realized : 1) it was almost midnight, 2) the game lasted 2:59.What is Selig thinking? If you want more viewers for the game...make it earlier....is he that hard-headed? Side note: Is it me or is Goodell looking like a premier commish compared to Stern (Lebron debacle and losing popularity) and Selig (steriods and overall idiocy) ? Tracee Hamilton: Let's start here because this is one of my pet peeves as well. The game really moved along, especially the first five innings, and yet I was really fighting it to stay awake. Granted, I'm heavily medicated, but I am POSITIVE that as a child, I wasn't allowed to stay up till midnight, even if that was only 11 p.m. out in God's country. What a shame baseball is doing this, and continues to do this. It grinds me even more during the playoffs, when you see some really great baseball. The all-star game isn't always a great game -- although I thought last night's was pretty darn good -- but still, the sport needs to make itself accessible to younger fans. Watching the all-star game with my dad is one of my fond memories of youth.Of course, putting the game in Cali means it started at 4:50 p.m. local time. That also wasn't ideal for the players or the fans. Bud at this point.nhl jerseys for cheap In my opinion. And good morning, everyone! _______________________ Nats: Who will be the Nationals first baseman in 2011? Tracee Hamilton: I'm going with Adam Dunn. And I think they'll get that done soon.(Thus ensuring he'll be traded by the deadline.)I think they are waiting to see if they get some incredible offer for him. And maybe they will. Who it won't be: Chris Marrero. _______________________ All Star Game: The pre-game horse shxt lasted so long last night that I turned off in disgust, watched a movie, and forgot to get back to it.Did the first batter walk into the box before or after 9 p.m.?Who won?Assuming Fox Sports actually let the game begin and end. Thanks much. HLB Tracee Hamilton: innings when all the pitching changes slowed it down... _______________________ Are they babying Strassy?: T-Ham, please permit me to offer you a sincere "Top o'the Morning to you!" Recently, I heard Mitch "The Wild Thing" Williams on a radio show saying disgustedly that managers in today's baseball are way, WAY over-cautious with pitchers with respect to their pitch counts, and cited the Nats's handling of our very own Strassy as a case-in-point. Mitch contended that it's actually better and healthier for him to be allowed to throw upwards of 120-125 pitches, and to have him throw HARD (not long-toss) between starts. Any thoughts? And also Jim Gray is kind of in need of someone shaking him really hard. Tracee Hamilton: Right back at you!I will say this: I love Mitch Williams. I was at the '93 Series and admired the way he came in and faced all questions after his rough outings. Never hid, never ducked questions, never snapped at reporters. Huge admiration for that that only grows as I am in more and more locker rooms. Now, about the pitch count. I think that pitch count is overrated, yes. I think there have been one or maybe two starts that Strasburg should have been allowed to go longer. I think I would have pinch-hit earlier for him in other starts. In other words, I would treat him like a pitcher. I wouldn't let him throw 200 pitches, but I think 100 might be a little low for him.As for Jim Gray .nhl jerseys for cheap.. well, I can't shake anyone right now. But remind me after the wing is healed. Date to lose sling: August 5. Still have to wear it in crowds, which means Redskins Park in August. So if you're going to attend camp and want to say hi, I'll be the annoyed looking one in the sling. _______________________ All Star Game: So, at the beginning of the season, who bet on Matt Capps being the winning pitcher of the All Star Game? Tracee Hamilton: Um, Mrs. Capps? No one. Which makes it so great. _______________________ Ads & baseball: Say what you want about soccer, but that World Cup final flew by. 120 minutes of sport played in about 140 minutes. The All-Star Game did not look good by comparison. It was 3 hours long and, frankly, pretty boring even when the game was on. Tracee Hamilton: But one woman's 3 hours is another person's 3 days, I guess. _______________________ Following up: Hey, there are plenty of good movies about basketball. What about "White Men Can't Jump," or "Heart of the Game," or "He Got Game," or "Rebound," or "Glory Road"? And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't like "Blue Chips," but some people do. It's not all "The Fish Who Saved Pittsburgh," you know. Tracee Hamilton: I'll give you "White Men Can't Jump." Plus I like to watch the DVD of KU-Memphis, 2008. But the quality of baseball movies, overall, is higher than any other sport. _______________________ From yesterday: Tracee said yesterday, "So I'd like to be more informed before responding. Hope you can understand that..." This is the internet; you are supposed to be fast, not informed, or even correct. (Just kidding.) Tracee Hamilton: Had to laugh.nhl jerseys for cheap.. _______________________ painkillers after surgery: With all the news in the world about these highly addictive painkillers like percocet, oxycontin, etc., was there any possibility in coming out of your surgery just using tons of tylenol, Aleve, etc? What do the doctors advise to keep from becoming dependent? I'm just wondering because I commonly have lots of back pain, but have avoided all these goofy medicines because of all the people that eventually become hooked. Sorry for the serious question, now back to Metrorail etiquette questions. Thanks. Tracee Hamilton: A woman on the Orange Line tied for my shoe for me yesterday. How nice was that? Restores my faith in Metro humanity. I was told that pain would be so bad I'd need the Vicodin. Happily, it hasn't been, and I have gone down to a milder pill, and will move to Tylenol soon. The back experience showed me that as wonderful as the happy pills are, I wouldn't get hooked. The key for me is the taper them as soon as you're able.As I've said before, I'm not a doctor, but I play one on this chat. _______________________ No Respect?: Zimm isn't chosen. Dunn & Pudge don't play. Capps gets 1/3 of an inning (but he wins!). Seems to me as if there is no love or respect for the Nats. Tracee Hamilton: The way for the Nats to get love and respect is to challenge for a division title, then win a division title, then win a league pennant, then... you get my drift. The Nats are going to have to earn it. Right now, they are not. I believe IT WILL HAPPEN. I really do. _______________________ Who would be the LEAST desirable companion on a long road trip?: Good Morning, Tracee. Thanks for doing these chats! Sorry for a non sports question, but there's not a doubt in my mind that your readership would like to know the following: if you were forced to take a road trip from D.C. to, say, Lawrence, Kansas, who, from among the following, would you LEAST like to have as a travel companion?a) Mr.nhl jerseys for cheap Tony (something to consider: lots of whining)b) Mel Gibsonc) Cheese Boyd) Jim Graye) An embittered Ralph Sampson f) Tiger Woods (the version who only offers clipped, semi-hostile responses)Thanks, Tracee. Tracee Hamilton: Well, if it was a plane flight I'd say Mr. Tony but he wouldn't be so bad in a car. Cheese Boy would be entertaining. I'm so over Mel Gibson. I'd stop at all the diners and observe Tiger's behavior. So I'd have to say Jim Gray. _______________________ Winning pitcher: Tracee,Good to see Matt Capps get the win--- for only one out. Are there any rules about who gets the win other than who pitches the last out of the inning when your team scores the winning run. It seems that some pitchers who pitch eight shutout innings with no run support get short changed when some reliever comes in to pitch the ninth and grabs the win. If the response is too complicated, just send me to a website with the rules. Tracee Hamilton: It's not quite as simple as this, but the pitcher of record gets the win. Capps pitched the bottom of the sixth; in the top of the seventh, he's still the pitcher of record because he hasn't been replaced, even though you knew he would be. So the NL scores 3 runs, which happened on Capps' watch, sort of, so he gets the win. Same thing happened to Strasburg the other night; the Nats scored while he was still the pitcher of record and even though he didn't start the next inning, he got the win. _______________________ Steinbrenner: Are we not being just a bit too kind to George Steinbrenner? Whatever his business acumen, he was a monster. Now the world is so nostalgic for him. Tracee Hamilton: "Seinfeld." But for Yankees fans, I'm sure it's a blow because he would spend his last dime to buy them players. With success. If that were your owner, you've love him despite his flaws. _______________________ Starting Times of National Sporting Events: As a native of DC, I agree that it would be great if the All-Star game, the World Series, Monday Night Football, and many other sporting events started at a time that would allow me to see the end of the game. The problem with this is the stupid thing called the West Coast. If games started earlier, folks on the West Coast wouldn't be back from their day jobs yet, so they would miss the beginning of these events. That said, is is generally better to miss the beginning of a sporting event or the end? If it is better to miss seeing the beginning, then maybe they should be starting the games earlier. At least this way, everyone could see the conclusion. Tracee Hamilton: I could really get into that. _______________________ Yaaaawn: I like seeing Chef Ramsey call people who should never be allowed in a kitchen "donkeys" than watching an inning of that game..nhl jerseys for cheap...that's an insult to both.Is it time to get rid of this All-Star break garbage? Tracee Hamilton: I missed this so I can't comment specifically but why anyone watches that show is beyond me. He just screams at people every week. What's the attraction? _______________________ Wilbon: So, no comment on Wilbon's 'job' on The Decision. he is now an NBA cheerleader, sans the skirt (thank, god). i understand he is a commentator and paid for his opinion. but the way he reacts as a post employee to criticism of the nba (e.g., in chats) seems to betray a conflict of interest on his part. Tracee Hamilton: Okay, I will comment on this. I thought the show was an embarrassment, but to ESPN, not Michael. But I stand by my early remarks that sometimes we do things we don't want to do because our employer asked us.Now, I have no idea if Wilbon wanted to do it or not. Haven't talked to him in awhile. You see him as too pro-NBA for your tastes. Okay. I've known Michael a long time and I'm 100 percent sure that when he sides with the NBA, it's because that's his real opinion, and when he doesn't, same thing. I just don't see Michael being a shill for anyone. As for The Post's opinion on this, I couldn't answer that. I'm happily not in management anymore.Enough of that, and of everything else. Thanks for joining me this morning; no idea what we'll talk about tomorrow. Does anyone care about the ESPYs? I'll watch, probably, for the same reason I watch all awards shows -- to see the clothes. Later!.
